Making Way for the New: New Moon Solar Eclipse in Taurus & Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn | April-Oct 2022

Key Points

This week, we’re taking a look ahead at the next six or so months as these transits, the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Taurus on April 30 and Pluto Retrograde starting April 29, gradually unfold. There’s all kinds of energy creating big upgrades within us right now, and a swell of Earth energy is coming up to greet our dreams and new ideas, offering to make them into physical reality one piece at a time.

The New Moon Solar Eclipse happening in Taurus brings new beginnings that you will realize internally, and will pull in new waves of clarity around what it is you truly want. If you can’t see it in your mind, you can’t create it in Earth reality. This is prime time for receiving Divine inspiration and downloads. You may also be feeling a yearning for a greater sense of autonomy and self-reliance.

The other transit we’ll look at, which is also roughly six months long, is Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn, starting April 29 and lasting through October 8. This transit is likely to unearth some stuff, that “stuff” belonging to whichever house your end degrees of Capricorn fall within in your natal chart. This transit will have us seeing manifestations of existing structures of power and receiving clarifying insight for how to restructure in areas where our deepest self craves more power.

Transit #1: New Moon Solar Eclipse in Taurus

New Moons are all about intention setting, and solar eclipses are typically where we, inside of ourselves, come to a new awareness, understanding, or level of clarity around our own desire. Anything that becomes manifest in the physical world is first dreamed of, imagined, conceptualized. What also must first occur is a clearing away of the old, of what no longer serves you. Luckily, the activation of Taurus with the New Moon Eclipse plus Capricorn with Pluto’s Retrograde (read more in the section below), comes one of the greatest skills of the Earth family (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) – pruning.

Pruning is the process of removing dead or overgrown parts of a tree or bush in order to free up space, energy, and nutrients for new growth. It’s trimming away the old to make way for the new. In the Earth realm, energy is finite. Each day we wake up with a certain amount of energy, and when that’s used up, we have to rest and replenish. If you’re giving energy away to things that drain it, giving no return on your investment, it might be time to prune back those branches. These energetic offshoots steal energy away from what truly matters – living our purpose.

The waves of clarity brought about by this transit, because it’s happening in the sign of Taurus, will likely be happening specifically around the desire for deepening your sense of inner peace or of inner security (you could have all the money in the world and still feel insecure on the inside!) How secure are you in yourself? Even if you’re in a situation where all of your needs are met, who is meeting those needs? Is it you? Or are you depending on someone else to meet some of those needs? The feeling of true freedom, of inner liberation, grows when we nourish our autonomy, sinking into the truth that we ourselves are all we truly need to be okay and to get by. Others come and go, but you will always have yourself. Does that Truth feel good or limiting to you? Now’s a good time to really think (or journal!) about that.

Where does 10° Taurus fall in your chart? The house where this Solar Eclipse takes place for you will have a major stake in how this energy impacts you personally (not familiar with your birth chart? Pull it here.) The house placement will especially affect where the changes brought by the Eclipse will impact your life.

The eclipses almost always happen in the pair of sister signs where the lunar nodes are residing at the time. This is the second of the Taurus/Scorpio eclipses, the first being back in November 2021. So whatever houses you have Taurus and Scorpio in are the arenas of your life that the energy of this eclipse season will shake up. These areas are getting an overhaul, so be ready! There could be chapters closing, chapters beginning, and big changes happening in general.

Next up in the eclipse series is the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio on May 16. Lunar eclipses are said to bring external manifestations of any changes you’ve recently made in your life. You’ll manifest things that reflect who you are now. The New Moon helps us to clear the space for these new manifestations. They don’t happen immediately, however, but rather will unfold over the next six or so months.

Transit #2: Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn | April 29 – October 8

What’s the Why behind your vision? The seeds you plant are the fruit you’ll get. Plant the seeds of a life that feels good to live! If you didn’t plant happiness seeds, don’t expect to get happiness trees. If you planted money seeds, all you’ll get is money trees. Not satisfaction, not success – just money. Earthy Capricorn shows us our personal definition of success. So on a collective level, there can be corruption bubbling to the surface with Pluto in Capricorn. The shadow and darkness is already there – this is just its coming to the surface.

Pluto embodies the idea of “the only way out is through.” The ruler of death and rebirth, Pluto reminds us that endings and beginnings are all wrapped up into one – they’re inseparable. It represents the process of metamorphosis, where the caterpillar becomes the butterfly by first entering the cocoon and then becoming goo. For a period of time, the creature is neither caterpillar nor butterfly, but rather exists in the liminal stage between the two – a time of utter Becoming.

During Pluto’s retrograde, we (or the part of ourselves undergoing transformation) enter the “goo” stage, where we are no longer who we used to be, but are also not yet who we are to become. It sounds scary, but when you trust the deep inner Knowing that assures you you are about to become a butterfly, you surrender to the metamorphic process as something to be embraced, admiring its pure magic amidst the nebulous uncertainty.

Pluto also represents Power – the power that we already have, the power we’ve given away, and the power we’ve yet to discover. Our limitations are as large as our self-empowerment is small – so how empowered are you? This transit is an invitation to claim more of your personal power. We’ll be presented with manifestations of our existing power structures, giving us the chance to determine what’s working and what isn’t.

These manifestations will likely look like oppression, people bossing us around (or trying to), being taken for granted, or other abuses of power. The knee jerk reaction to this kind of instance might be to feel powerless in the situation, but the opportunity lies in reclaiming your power from it. Keep in mind that these people and situations are showing up in your life to provide you with this incredible opportunity, even though it may not feel like it at the time. They’re holding your power, right in front of you, in order for you to take it back, and that’s something to be grateful for. If you’re not sure where to start with reclaiming your power, start by honoring your sacred No, and say NO to whatever doesn’t feel good.

In Conclusion

All this energy in Taurus and Capricorn (which is also being sextiled by dreamy Pisces) sets the stage for the amazing combination of knowing our own divinity in a more profound way than ever before and grounding it into the physical where it can come alive.
Our primary focus at this time is first to embody our own divinity. Claim your power. Stand in it. Speak your truth. Own your authenticity. Our secondary focus is on this question: How can I reallocate my energy within my life to “vote for” structures that embody the divinity within me, the divinity that I embody?
