Planting Seeds: New Moon in Aries & Mercury in Aries | March/April 2022

This is a phase of new beginnings, and it’s all about dreaming big.

Big dreams, visions, and ideas can certainly be overwhelming, but it’s important to remember the words of Lao Tzu, who said that the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Honor yourself in this phase of new beginnings by being willing to look no further than one step ahead at a time. The rest will fall into place as it is meant to. Looking ahead to May, Jupiter will join the Aries party and will bring big, expansive energy to these new seeds and sprouts that we’re nurturing right now. So for now, leave your seeds in peace by letting yourself dream as big as your heart can handle, and have trust in the Universe that it will all come together in divine time

“Within the seed of your desire is everything necessary for it to blossom to fulfillment. And Law of Attraction is the engine that does the work. Your work is just to give it a fertile growing place in order to expand.”

-Esther Hicks

Beginning March 27th and lasting through April 11th, Mercury will be in Aries, triggering honest communication and bringing our fire close to the surface. During that window, a New Moon in Aries will take place on April 1st, adding to the mix an air of clear revolutions around our freedom and independence, giving us a preview of who we are meant to be.

Are you ready?

Aries Overview

Aries season is about knowing the “fight” that lights your soul on fire. When we’re in Pisces season, we merge with the All. When we come back around to Aries, to the light half of the year, there is a regathering of all of our own identity. In Aries energy, we are encouraged to pull our energy back toward ourselves, to go fight the fights that truly matter to us.

As are many elements of human life, the astrological year is a cycle. We’ve made a whole trip around the sun, once again, in the cyclical wheel of the zodiac. This Aries season, we are all older and wiser than last Aries season. So who are you now? What matters to you now? It’s time to reassert who you are and what you believe in. Put yourself back into the creative conversation. These are the seeds we plant that will grow all year long, so be the gardener of your own soul.

So what’s the first step to knowing who you are? Self-discovery! Anything with the word “new” in front of it is your best friend in the process of self-discovery. If you aren’t sure what your Arien “fight” is, then just try new things, observe your reactions, and take note of how you feel.

What’s the Fight that sets your soul on fire?

Aries implores us to dig deeper when it comes to this question.

Aries sometimes receives criticism for being self-centered. But self-centeredness is actually a protection mechanism, as it increases the chances that you will find success in pursuing your life’s work and of manifesting your dreams in the world. Every moment you spend focusing on yourself, the chances of that happening increases. Of course, balance is needed in focusing on the self and focusing on others. Selfishness is not only useful but necessary, and Aries helps us step into that important energy.

Spend some time alone, take yourself on solo dates or vacations – become your own best friend. Aries is the individual of the Zodiac, and that can feel lonely sometimes. But by acknowledging the validity of your own presence and spending time genuinely witnessing that presence, you can become your own best friend who never leaves your side, always there to support you and honor you. The highest frequency of self-centeredness is self-trust, self-love, self-valuation and self-validation. Filling up your own cup so that you can pour from it freely and generously. During Aries season, sense the difference between unhelpful selfishness and empowered self-focus.

Moon Overview

The Moon is the ruler of the 4th House and the 4th sign of Cancer. It represents our emotions, sensitivities, intuition, and dominant mood or attitude. It’s an emotional filter, kind of like Mercury is our mental or perspective filter (read more about Mercury below.) We all process life’s emotions differently, in both how we make sense of them within ourselves and how we express them out into the world. No two people feel the same way.

It also represents your mothering instincts, which we all have, regardless of sex or gender. It’s how caring we are toward ourselves and others. The Moon is the great healer, creating the feeling of “glad to be alive.” Overcoming hard things to come back to a place of gratitude in our lives. If you can’t feel, you can’t heal. The Moon rules over and guides this process.

If you can’t feel, you can’t heal.

Transit #1: New Moon in Aries at 11° | April 1, 2022

This April Fool’s Day transit is no joke! It’s time to take our deepest dreams and soul-level visions seriously, no matter how far-fetched or unattainable they may seem. Taking them seriously means to let them exist, let them reside in the big, nebulous unknown and instead of trying to figure it all out, just let it be. This New Moon energy tells us that if you can see it, you can get there, and encourages us to not let the limitations of the physical become our limitations or excuses.

This is an intentional preview of your leading-edge self. Claim it!

If you have a vision of who you want to be in this world, Aries fervently believes that you deserve to make that manifest. In truth, your dream is really Source’s dream, seeking manifestation in the 3D world through you. Believe that your dream does matter, no matter how big or crazy it may seem, and honor your inner Aries by supporting yourself in actualizing your own dreams.

The New Moon is the “teacher” phase. New beginnings, planting seeds, setting intentions, initiations, activations. New Moon in Aries means tuning in to what your heart has been called to do. To live in an honorable way, whatever that means to you. It may create a sense of urgency or a drive to win, however, so be aware of those feelings and don’t let them lead you astray. Be aware of bursts of anger or feeling the need to vent, too. Our fire will be a little closer to the surface than usual, so make sure to be lovingly mindful of that.

Mercury Overview

Mercury rules two signs – Gemini, its masculine face, and Virgo, its feminine face. It is the fastest moving planet with the closest proximity to and quickest orbit around the sun – thus it represents the speed of thought. Thoughts move much faster than we can verbalize them, and studies have even shown that most people have over 6,000 separate thoughts per day. This also means that Mercury goes retrograde more frequently than any other planet (3 – 4 times per year) meaning that it appears, from our perspective here on Earth, to take on a backward motion through the cosmos and backtracks through the sign(s) it most recently traversed.

Mercury is also known as the messenger of the gods, taking on the archetypes of the teacher and the storyteller – both of which are inextricably intertwined with speaking. Mercury is communication. Data in, data out. Processing information and input. The planet itself represents a mirror, showing you exactly what is. No bias. No agenda. Just what is. No person is a perfect mirror containing no biases – we can’t help it! That’s because our planets are each in signs, and our natal Mercury placement tells us how we pay attention. The sign and house where our natal Mercury is located tells us how, when, and why we pay attention. We all take in the world through our own unique filter, and Mercury can help us understand our “data in” lens.

Before we speak, we learn.

That is the path of Mercury.

Transit #2: Mercury enters Aries | March 27 – April 11

Since Mercury will be direct during this transit, it will only spend 15 days here in Aries – just over two weeks. That’s not very long, so be sure to make the most of this small window of energy while you can!

When Mercury hangs out in the fiery and primal realm of Aries, it takes on a communication style that is straightforward, honest, and direct. The way we’re inclined to communicate may feel more like “thinking out loud” than usual. As the first sign, Aries is the child of the Zodiac and therefore embodies the matter-of-fact nature in which children often speak. Kids tend to say what’s on their mind! There’s power in this frankness, so there’s also a need for caution.

“Your word is the power that you have to create; it is a gift.”

Don Miguel Ruiz

Mercury in Aries can bring fights to the surface, but it can also bring voice to your self-discovery process. In any relationship in your life where you’re walking on eggshells, ask yourself why. Is it for the comfort of the other person, or for the sake of the relationship? This Mercury in Aries is a moment to put that in its place. If you’re not ready to say your piece, voice your authentic self, then you may need to avoid those situations until this transit has passed. However, do consider what speaking your truth might sound like and if this might be the right opportunity to say your piece.

Within this energy of being truthful with others also comes the energy of being truthful with ourselves. Unlike Mercury itself, no person is unbiased. One of the major learning opportunities during this time is to confront your own biases and assumptions openly and directly, so that you can ultimately be more honest with and true to yourself. When we elevate our perception of ourselves, we’re much more able to provide ourselves with the support we need to pursue our dreams. It’s time to be on your own team.

Protect your dreams, and if you need to learn to better enforce your boundaries in order to make your dreams possible, now is the time to focus on that. Remember that some things have to vacate before the new can make its way into our life. Mercury in Aries can help us assert our needs or boundaries in order to clear out what no longer serves us and to create space for what does.

In Conclusion:

All this Aries energy is telling us to believe in our dream, in our vision – and the universe will take care of the rest. What’s the point? Where am I going? What’s the goal, the vision? Now is the time to get clear on these things.

This big energy moving through Aries turns up the volume on these themes, and then when April 12th rolls around with the Neptune and Jupiter conjunction in Pisces, there’s an opportunity for big release of what’s no longer serving your vision, your highest path.

Self-trust in this time is huge. Allow your big vision to be big. No matter how unattainable it might seem. Just let it exist. There will be overwhelming dreaming followed by big release, and it’s all setting the stage for major, major upgrades to come in our lives and in the world around us.
